ICYMI: Congressman Gabe Evans Fights for Healthcare Access in Rural Communities

August 6, 2025

In case you missed it…  Congressman Gabe Evans is delivering historic wins for rural communities in CO-08. He recently introduced the bipartisan Mobile Cancer Screening Act to expand mobile cancer screening services to underserved communities and rural hospitals, bringing lifesaving care directly to patients in need.

This legislation directly follows through on Congressman Evans' commitment to rural communities and comes after he voted for the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) last month, which provides $50 billion for rural hospitals, bringing better access to quality care, more healthcare jobs, and stronger local economies to millions of American communities.

U.S. Rep. Gabe Evans reintroduces Mobile Cancer Screening Act

Rural hospitals may soon regain federal support as U.S. Reps. Gabe Evans and Raul Ruiz have reintroduced the Mobile Cancer Screening Act.

“Far too many Coloradans and Americans in rural areas face barriers to cancer screening services simply because of where they live. I understand just how critical it is to bring lifesaving health care directly to the communities that need it most,” Evans said in a news release announcing the act.

The Mobile Cancer Screening Act aims to establish a federal grant program that would help rural hospitals and health care centers purchase mobile screening units for cancer, the leading cause of death in the United States, according to the bill’s text.

This act, if passed, will address an aspect of one of the larger concerns among health care officials about the One Big Beautiful Bill that was signed into law in early July. Before its passage, the bill’s opponents had criticized the stricter stipulations on Medicaid, arguing that they could result in lower funding for rural hospitals and their subsequent closure, leading to further travel distances for individuals seeking care.

“I am proud to help lead the fight to expand access to mobile cancer screening units and ensure every family has a fair shot at timely, quality care,” Evans said in the release. “I am committed to working across the aisle with my colleagues in Congress to ensure expanded access and lower costs for those who need care most.”
