As a second-generation homeschooler and father, I know kids deserve to thrive in the environment that best fits their unique needs. School choice is one of the most important civil rights issues of our day. No child should be trapped in an underperforming school simply because he or she lives in the wrong zip code.

Energy

CO-08 includes a large portion of Weld County, one of the highest energy-producing counties in the country and is the number one producer of oil and gas in Colorado. 82% of all crude oil production and 56% of all natural gas production in Colorado comes from Weld County. Wind, solar, geothermal, and many other energy technologies are also heavily represented in the district and critical to the economy of Weld, Adams, and Larimer counties.

Veterans

As an Army combat veteran myself, I understand there are unique problems facing our veterans today. We owe a massive debt of gratitude to the men and women who are willing to put their lives on the line. I am committed to providing our veterans with the help they need and improving the quality of care that we provide them.

Economy

Whether it’s gas, groceries, or utilities, there’s no doubt everything is more expensive than it used to be. As a husband and father of two growing boys, tackling this problem is a top priority of mine in Congress. Lowering prices for a more realistic cost of living won’t happen overnight, but with the right economic policies, we will be able to see inflation come down, putting money back in the bank accounts of Colorado families.

Seniors

We must keep the promises we made to our seniors. My parents rely on Social Security, so I know firsthand how important it is to preserve the benefits seniors have earned. We must protect Social Security and I support efforts to make Social Security tax-free.

Healthcare

Healthcare impacts everyone differently. In my immediate family, we’ve had to manage multiple types of life-threatening and complex health conditions. Because of these experiences, I truly appreciate how important it is for all Americans and Coloradans to have access to quality healthcare and insurance coverage, including for pre-existing conditions.

Armed Forces

Service is in my blood. My Grandpa Chavez gained his American citizenship by serving in World War II. I served 12 years in the Army - including a combat deployment to the Middle East - the Colorado Army National Guard as a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter pilot, and as an Arvada police officer.

Border Security and Immigration

As the grandson of Mexican immigrants, I feel strongly about the issue of immigration. It is an issue that hits close to home because Colorado’s sanctuary state policies have led to the presence of cartels and illegal criminals gangs like Tren de Aragua. Our hospitals and school systems are struggling, Colorado is leading the nation in all the wrong categories like auto theft, and our state’s fentanyl crisis has taken thousands of lives. There’s no question the status quo is unsustainable.

Public Safety

My 10+ years as a cop in the Arvada Police Department greatly shaped how I view the issue of public safety.

Agriculture and Production

My wife and I own and operate a family farm in southern Weld County, playing just a small part in Colorado’s $47 billion agriculture sector. As a beef producer myself, I have the backs of our farmers and ranchers who are feeding the world.
