Energy
Oil and gas:
CO-08 includes a large portion of Weld County, one of the highest energy-producing counties in the country and is the number one producer of oil and gas in Colorado. 82% of all crude oil production and 56% of all natural gas production in Colorado comes from Weld County. Wind, solar, geothermal, and many other energy technologies are also heavily represented in the district and critical to the economy of Weld, Adams, and Larimer counties.
As a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee this Congress, I support a safe, reliable, and secure energy policy. This means supporting oil, gas, nuclear, renewables, and new technologies to better the entirety of American energy production.
The Democrats’ war on domestic energy is damaging to American innovation, national security, and lower costs. Our electric grid is already overwhelmed and unstable. Local utilities are projecting needing double to triple their current power requirements in just 10 years. If we continue on the path that Colorado Democrats have put us on, there won't be enough electricity to serve all American households. I support increasing domestic production of energy resources to ensure our energy independence and end our reliance on foreign countries. Supporting projects like the Keystone XL Pipeline and domestic drilling is necessary to the overall health of our country.
Air quality:
Air quality is not an economy versus health outcomes issue. I have a son with respiratory issues, who is directly impacted by air quality. We know about 70% of pollution along the Front Range doesn't originate in Colorado. So, when it comes to addressing pollution and air quality in Colorado, we must find the balance between addressing the northern Front Range’s high ground-level ozone levels while still protecting our economy. Our energy industry shouldn’t take a hit for pollution that Colorado isn’t even responsible for. I plan to address this issue with my position on the subcommittee for Environment within the Energy and Commerce Committee.
I also support efforts to drop the reformulated gas (RFG) mandate during summer months. RFG costs consumers more, but has an absolutely minimal impact on air pollution. Coloradans shouldn't have to pay millions more in energy costs for draconian measures with a miniscule impact on air quality.
