Rep. Evans and Deputy Secretary of Labor Highlight CO-08's AI Workforce Innovation
DENVER, CO – Today U.S. Congressman Gabe Evans welcomed U.S. Department of Labor Deputy Secretary Keith Sonderling at Aims Community College in Fort Lupton, Colorado to highlight how CO-08 is a leader in artificial intelligence (AI) and technology-driven job creation.
The visit consisted of a tour of Aims Instructional Facilities and a roundtable with Aims faculty, staff, and local elected officials. Colorado has the 16th highest rate of AI-related job openings nationwide, and the number of AI-specific job postings in Colorado grew 66.5% in July from a year ago.
“I’m proud to welcome the Deputy Secretary of Labor to Colorado’s 8th District as we highlight the cutting-edge work happening right here at Aims Community College,” said Congressman Gabe Evans. “From their partnership with Google Gemini to hands-on career training, Aims is preparing students for the jobs of tomorrow. This administration is embracing the future of AI while keeping American workers at the center of innovation. This is what it looks like when education, industry, and government work together to strengthen our economy and outcompete China.”
“Seeing firsthand how Aims Community College is preparing students to succeed in the AI revolution is encouraging, and I’m grateful to Congressman Evans for hosting me,” said Deputy Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling. “The Trump Administration is advancing an AI strategy that puts workers first, and that starts by equipping young people with the skills they need to succeed in a rapidly evolving economy. The Department of Labor remains committed to supporting community colleges like Aims to help carry out that mission.”
“At Aims Community College, we see artificial intelligence not just as a tool, but as a gateway to the future,” said Dr. David Oehler, Vice President of Academic Affairs at Aims. “By giving students access to cutting-edge technology, Aims is preparing students to thrive in tomorrow’s economy.”
Aims Community College has partnered with Google, making Google Gemini an official Generative AI service for its Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence programming. Aims has a clear focus on preparing students to be future-ready through engagement with emerging technologies and focusing on experiential learning, which equips students with hands-on training and the technical skills needed to compete in an increasingly AI-driven economy.
Earlier this month, the Trump Administration unveiled an AI Action Plan to grow American dominance in the AI world by removing burdensome regulations and accelerating innovation. The initiative is a part of a larger ongoing effort by the White House to remove AI guardrails imposed by the previous administration.
Additionally, waves have been made under the One Big Beautiful Bill, which enacts substantial federal investment in AI infrastructure, research, and development for U.S. based AI infrastructure including data centers, semiconductor manufacturing, and AI research with support from federal agencies.
