Rep. Gabe Evans: Crypto Week is a win for Colorado’s freedom and financial future

July 17, 2025

In Colorado, we believe in freedom, opportunity, and a fair shot for anyone willing to work for it. From small business owners in Brighton to entrepreneurs in Greeley, Coloradans know that the government works best when it protects our liberties and then gets out of the way. That’s exactly the approach we need as America writes the rules of the road for the future of cryptocurrency.

This week is Crypto Week in Washington — and we’re finally making progress. Under President Donald Trump’s bold vision to make the United States the Bitcoin Superpower and Crypto Capital of the world, Congress is delivering on the promise of financial freedom and innovation.

For too long, America’s approach to crypto has been a mess of overregulation, legal threats, and confusing rules that pushed investment and opportunity overseas. When the USA does not lead, malicious foreign actors like the Chinese Communist Party will fill the vacuum. That changes now.

Here’s what Republicans are doing:

Clear rules for stablecoins. The GENIUS Act creates transparent guidelines for payment stablecoins — protecting consumers while giving U.S. companies a competitive advantage on the global stage.

Ending regulation by enforcement. For years, unelected bureaucrats have tried to crush legitimate crypto businesses through lawsuits and backdoor rules. The CLARITY Act puts a stop to that, providing clear, commonsense rules for digital assets, closing the regulatory gaps, and giving investors and businesses certainty.

Protecting self-custody. In a free country, you should have the right to control your own money — whether it’s in a wallet, a bank, or on the blockchain. These bills protect that freedom and ensure Americans can hold and manage their own digital assets without fear of government overreach.

Banning Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs). A government-run digital dollar would give bureaucrats dangerous power over your finances — tracking, controlling, and potentially limiting how you spend your money. The Anti-CBDC Surveillance State Act stops that before it ever starts. Because in America, financial freedom belongs to the people, not the government.

This is about more than cryptocurrency. It’s about freedom, privacy, and opportunity for all. It’s about building an economy where innovation thrives, small businesses grow, and working families can invest in their futures without government interference.

As a former cop and Army combat veteran, I stand for public safety, American freedom, and the hardworking people of Colorado. This week, I’m proud to help advance a vision of an America that leads the world in financial innovation and protects the personal liberties that make this country great.

Crypto Week is here — and Coloradans will be better for it.
