Congressman Evans Introduces Bipartisan Bill to Rename Local Post Office in Honor of Fallen Deputy

May 13, 2025

During National Police Week, former cop Congressman Gabe Evans introduced bipartisan legislation to rename the Evans Main Post Office in Weld County to honor Weld County Sheriff’s Deputy Samuel Brownlee. A devoted husband, father, and stepfather, Sheriff Brownlee was tragically shot and killed in the line of duty while struggling with a gang member in 2010 after five years of distinguished service with the Weld County Sheriff’s Office.

“This National Police Week, I'm proud to introduce this bill to honor fallen  Deputy Sam Brownlee,” said Congressman Evans. “As a former cop, I understand the risks the men and women in uniform take to protect our communities. Deputy Brownlee’s sacrifice is a solemn reminder of that courage, and this is one small way we can ensure his legacy lives on in the community he served.”

“Sam Brownlee was extremely proud and dedicated to being a Weld County Deputy,” said Weld County Sheriff Reams. “Sam served honorably until the very end when he gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to his community. Sam Brownlee’s service will never be forgotten.”

"On National Police Week, I am honored to join Congressman Evans in his efforts to rename the Weld County Post Office in honor of Sheriff’s Deputy Samuel Brownlee,” said Congressman Jeff Crank. “Deputy Brownlee lost his life on the frontlines, in service of keeping his community safe from a violent gang member.”

“Deputy Samuel Brownlee was a hero whose life was tragically cut short while doing what he loved: serving his community and working to keep his neighbors safe,” said Congresswoman Boebert. “He is more than deserving of this honor, which will help future generations of Coloradans know this hero. We will always remember his bravery and we will never forget his sacrifice for Weld County and our entire state.”
