Rapid response: WTAS Rep Evans UPLIFT Act
Key stakeholder support is flooding in for Congressman Gabe Evans’ Unhandcuffing Police to Locate and Interdict Foreign Transgressors (UPLIFT) Act. The UPLIFT Act was the first bill the congressman introduced, and it pushes back against Colorado's sanctuary state policies, supports local police, and helps get dangerous criminals off our streets. More information about the bill is available here.
As always, Congressman Evans is dedicated to improving public safety and cracking down on the dangerous, criminal illegal immigrants who seek to harm and traffic drugs like fentanyl and pink cocaine into Colorado. While Democrats sit idly by and let sanctuary state policies be the status quo, Congressman Evans is working to make Colorado a safer place to live, work, and raise a family.
Here is what stakeholders are saying about the UPLIFT Act:
➡️ Weld County Sheriff Steven Reams: “Congressman Evans has a proven track record of supporting law enforcement so they can keep our communities safe. The UPLIFT act is a major step in overcoming sanctuary policies that protect illegals over Americans.”
➡️ Weld County Commissioners: “The UPLIFT Act ensures that states honor ICE detainer requests and provides crucial legal protections for officers who follow federal law. It also empowers local law enforcement to share information about illegal immigration suspected of criminal activity with federal immigration officials. This is a vital step in enabling our law enforcement officers to prevent crime and ensure that individuals who break the law are held accountable.”
➡️ Douglas County Commissioners: “This critical piece of legislation will provide local law enforcement the necessary tools and legal protections to address the growing challenges posed by illegal immigration and the associated crime in our communities. We are particularly grateful for the bill's focus on restoring cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities which is vital for the safety and security of our residents.”
➡️ El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal: “I wholeheartedly support the UPLIFT Act, and commend Congressman Evans for introducing this critical public safety legislation. In Colorado, law enforcement’s hands have been tied by sanctuary laws, preventing us from fully working with our federal partners and holding criminals who hide behind their immigration status accountable. The UPLIFT Act will remove these restrictive state statutes and allow local and federal law enforcement agencies to collaborate appropriately to address violent crimes in their communities. As Sheriff, my Office is committed to the safety and well-being of the citizens we have sworn to protect. The UPLIFT Act will ensure we have the resources to be successful.”
