Rep. Gabe Evans Selected for Energy and Commerce Committee
Evans is the first incoming freshman in 14 years to be added to the committee
THORNTON, CO - Congressman Gabe Evans announced today he has been selected to the Energy and Commerce Committee for the 119th Congress. Evansʼ selection to the committee is historical, as he is the first incoming freshman to be added to the committee in 14 years.
“I am honored to be selected to serve on the Energy and Commerce Committee. Colorado’s Eighth Congressional District is essential to American energy independence, which affects everything from solving high costs to protecting national security. It is essential Coloradans have balanced representation on this committee and I’m ready to get to work,” said Congressman-elect Evans.
The large amounts of energy produced in Coloradoʼs Eighth Congressional District makes Congressman-elect Evans a natural fit for the committee. The district includes a large portion of Weld County, one of the highest energy- producing counties in the country and is the number one producer of oil and gas in Colorado. 82% of all crude oil production and 56% of all natural gas production in Colorado comes from Weld County. Wind, solar, geothermal, and many other energy technologies are also heavily represented in the district and critical to the economy of Weld, Adams, and Larimer counties.
The Energy and Commerce Committee, first established in 1795, is the oldest committee in the House of Representatives and it has broad jurisdiction over health care, energy, environment, technology, data privacy and security, broadband, and much more.
