Rep. Evans Announces His Guest for President Trump’s Joint Session of Congress
Congressman Gabe Evans is honored to announce his guest for the President’s Joint Session of Congress will be Liz Hardy.
In the early hours of January 1, 2022, Liz’s middle daughter, Brooke, tragically passed away after taking half of a counterfeit pill laced with a lethal amount of fentanyl. Brooke called 911 for help but could not give an address or reason for calling and died soon after. She was a beautiful, healthy, 25 year old college graduate with a full-time and part-time job, no issues with depression, anxiety, or addiction, and had her whole life laid ahead of her.
“As a Colorado cop for 10 years, I witnessed firsthand how not supporting law enforcement enables traffickers and the flow of fentanyl into our communities. I’m humbled to have Liz join me at the President’s Joint Address and I will always fight to rid our communities of this deadly poison that is wreaking havoc on our communities.” –Rep. Gabe Evans
“One time, half a pill, and life for our family changed forever. If it were not for our faith in Christ, knowing we will see Brooke again one day, we could not survive this. We want her story to be told because too many of our loved ones are dying unnecessarily.” –Liz Hardy
Congressman Evans is an outspoken advocate cracking down on fentanyl, often tying it back to the importance of border security. Last month the congressman helped introduce the HALT Fentanyl Act, legislation to give law enforcement tools to tackle the fentanyl crisis, stop traffickers, and protect communities from the deadly impact of illegal drugs like fentanyl. Watch his speech on it here.
The facts:
- Last year, DEA’s Rocky Mountain division seized a record 2.7 million fentanyl pills. That’s enough to kill everyone in CO-08 1.5 times.
Of those roughly 2.7 million, half contained a fatal dose of fentanyl. That’s a 50-50 chance someone would die after taking one of these pills.
- Since 2020, illegal drugs like fentanyl have claimed over 7,000 lives in Colorado. That’s twice the death toll of September 11th.
- Every fentanyl distribution case throughout Colorado in 2024 could be tracked back to two Mexican cartels. That’s why we must secure the border and deport criminal illegal immigrants.
