Rep. Evans Supports Protecting American Elections

April 11, 2025

Congressman Gabe Evans yesterday supported the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, commonsense legislation to ensure only American citizens can vote in American elections by requiring proof of citizenship to vote.

“Democrats created the illegal immigration crisis with open borders and sanctuary city policies that often put criminal illegal immigrants ahead of American citizens. Republicans are cleaning up their mess with commonsense legislation like the SAVE Act, which protects and secures the future of our elections so that Americans, and Americans alone, decide the future of our democracy.” –Rep. Gabe Evans

There is currently no enforcement mechanism ensuring only citizens  vote in elections, and Colorado election officials have confirmed there are loopholes by which someone can register to vote without having to show proof of citizenship. For years, Americans have expressed concerns about the strength of our electoral process and this bill ensures that every state enforces vital safeguards to American democracy. This effort also comes after Democrat legislation and lax laws have allowed illegal immigrants to cross our borders and take advantage of sanctuary states like Colorado.

Additionally, it amends the National Voter Registration Act (NRVA), which states like Colorado have exploited to avoid checking for citizenship during voting registration, to give states the tools to remove non-citizens from their voter rolls and penalize officials that knowingly register non-citizens.
