January 3, 2025

Rep. Evans was sworn in as the new Congressman for Colorado’s 8th district today

WASHINGTON – Today Congressman Gabe Evans issued the following statement on being sworn in as the new representative for Colorado’s 8th congressional district in the 119th Congress.

Watch the video here or read highlights below from his opening remarks at today’s press conference.

On what today means:

“As the grandson of immigrants from Mexico, to be able to be sworn in today as a Congressman just truly speaks to what a great privilege this is, and to how special it is that we have that freedom and that upward mobility here in the United States.”

On being bipartisan:

“I'm going to make sure that I work as hard as I can for everybody in the district. It's the same thing that it is as a police officer. It doesn't matter what party you were. What mattered was, how do we work together to be able to solve the problems.”

On the Speaker vote:

“I was honored today to cast my first vote for Speaker Mike Johnson, and we were able to get that done. There was obviously a lot of conversation about how long would it take to get a Speaker. But on the first vote, we were able to get Speaker Johnson elected.”

Looking forward:

“Now, I’m just looking forward to rolling up our sleeves and getting to work on those crucial items that the American people sent us here to do, specifically around things like border security, public safety, and making sure that we're working on the cost of living and making sure that we're a safe, affordable place again for folks to live, to work, and to raise families. I’m just super excited to be able to roll up my sleeves and get to work delivering those agenda items.”
