Reps. Gabe Evans and Don Davis introduce Bipartisan Bill to Honor Service Through Opportunity
WASHINGTON —Congressman Gabe Evans (CO-08) joined Rep. Don Davis (NC-01) to introduce the bipartisan, Hiring Preference for Veterans and Americans with Disabilities Act. Companion legislation was introduced in the U.S. Senate by Senators Tim Sheehy (R-MT) and Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) making the bill both bipartisan and bicameral.
The Hiring Preferences for Veterans and Americans with Disabilities Act empowers state and local jurisdictions to give hiring preference to veterans, individuals with disabilities, and nonresident military spouses or dependents when selecting election workers. It also ensures military spouses and dependents cannot be denied these roles solely on the grounds that they do not maintain residency in the jurisdiction.
“As an Army veteran and former cop, I’ve seen firsthand how our military families contribute to Colorado’s communities,” said Congressman Gabe Evans. “As a former state legislator, I championed initiatives to support and expand opportunities for the disability community. This commonsense, bipartisan legislation helps to not only continue those efforts but gives our veterans and their families the chance to continue serving our country — this time by safeguarding our right to vote.”
“Our veterans and military families deserve every opportunity available because they have made significant sacrifices for the American people.” — Congressman Don Davis
“America’s veterans put their lives on the line in defense of our freedoms, and as they transition to civilian life after coming home, it’s critical we ensure they can find purpose, community, and opportunity. I’m proud to lead this commonsense bill to empower our veterans to continue serving our country through the electoral process.” – Senator Tim Sheehy
