What CO-08 is seeing: Rep. Evans calls for changes to Colorado immigration policies

January 24, 2025

Earlier this week, Congressman Gabe Evans led an effort to apply pressure on Governor Jared Polis by seeking answers on what exactly Polis plans to do about Colorado’s immigration problems.

Now, the local airwaves are flooded with the news that Colorado’s immigration crisis is self-inflicted and Congressman Evans is leading the charge to fix it.

👀 Here’s what Coloradans are seeing:

Fox 31: “Colorado’s congressional delegation are calling on Governor Jared Polis to change the state’s immigration policies. State law currently prohibits local law enforcement agencies from cooperating with immigration enforcement officers.”

Fox 21: Evans, Boebert, and Crank “claim if Polis refuses to repeal some of those local laws, detaining and deporting criminals in Colorado could be nearly impossible.”

Axios Denver:The letter asks whether Polis intends to increase cooperation between local law enforcement and U.S. immigration authorities after he said he ‘welcomed’ federal help to detain and deport ‘criminals’ in the country unlawfully.”

CW2: “Colorado has a panel of sanctuary state laws that make it illegal or very difficult for state and local law enforcement to work with federal authorities.”

Colorado Public Radio: “The three Republicans who signed on the letter blame Polis and Democrats for so-called “sanctuary state policies” negatively impacting Colorado.”

Colorado Politics: “Colorado's congressional delegation are calling on Gov. Jared Polis to match his rhetoric with actions when it comes to state cooperation with federal immigration authorities.”
