U.S. Rep. Gabe Evans has introduced a bipartisan bill during National Police Week aimed at renaming the post office in the city of Evans to honor a fallen Weld County deputy.

The legislation proposes changing the name to “Deputy Samuel Kent Brownlee Post Office,” according to a news release from Evans, who represents Colorado’s 8th District.

Today Congressman Gabe Evans’ bipartisan Benefits that Endure for Lifetimes of Service (BELO’S) Act passed through the House of Representatives. This is Congressman Evans’ first piece of legislation to pass the House, and the bill would give free National Park lifetime passes to the families of veterans who passed away from a service-related illness or accident.

Today Congressman Gabe Evans delivered a speech on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives on the bipartisan Benefits that Endure for Lifetimes Of Service Act (BELO’S) Act – named after Marc Belo, Evans’ friend and fellow veteran and Black Hawk helicopter pilot who passed away from service-related cancer one year ago this week – which would expand free access to National Parks to the families of veterans who passed away from a service-related illness or accident.

During National Police Week, former cop Congressman Gabe Evans introduced bipartisan legislation to rename the Evans Main Post Office in Weld County to honor Weld County Sheriff’s Deputy Samuel Brownlee. A devoted husband, father, and stepfather, Sheriff Brownlee was tragically shot and killed in the line of duty while struggling with a gang member in 2010 after five years of distinguished service with the Weld County Sheriff’s Office.
